The Moneypenny Life

It's nearing the end of 2008, I thought it was about time to spruce up the blog as plenty has changed, I now work in music publishing and love it...and yes, a little bit of my heart will always be in love with New York. Welcome to the new life.

Wonder Why??

Do You Ever Wonder…?

- Isn’t it time in the UK that our hip hop artists had the same impact that any American rapper does in the UK and internationally?

- Don’t you think it’s time we addressed the issues preventing our artists from becoming well paid super stars?

- Who do you think is to blame? Radio? TV? Executives? What can we do to change the situation for the better?

- Should America show more solidarity and support for our artists? Should the media stop pitting us against them and instead work on bringing hip hop all over the world together?

- Isn’t it time that our artists and our very own UK hip hop movement stops being treated like second rate artists?

- Why don’t we look at our own hip hop history and start to show the world how proud of our history and our artists we really are?

If we create more record sales from UK artists, garner more airplay, place more publicity, see more international artists working together, see more UK headliners or even make one person think of a bigger picture for a UK artist, then we will have achieved something great.

This being the tip of iceberg, is only the beginning, may the doors open further for all of us through our endeavours together.

Personally Speaking...

This is the last I will say on the subject as I don't wish to give David Cameron any more publicity from our cause than he's already taken...

Before he starts accusing hip hop of promoting or inciting violence he should take a good hard look at his own government who start wars, who actually has their hands on causing violence? Who effectively does promote violence?

Perhaps if Cameron was willing to sit down and look at the community, dare to scratch below the surface of what is really going on, the real problems and the real nitty gritty truth about the rise of gun and knife crime, maybe then we can talk and work out programs for the youth and work with the community instead of persecuting the people who express what is going on in their surroundings through music - which is their voice.

There are certain people who are in positions of great influence or visibilty who have a responsibilty to their communities who do nothing to help anyone except themselves. I won't go into that, or name names, I'll leave it to the artists who have a voice and feel passionately about it to say what they need to say.

Keep watching because this remarkably talented southern gent will grace our fair English shores in mid July as Ambassador for the UHHS and he will have some lovely surprises with him, which we're knocking heads and working on right now.

Bringing good old fashioned charm back, who knew manners and etiquette could look so cool!

Calling All Original UK Hip Hop Heads

We need you...

The UHHS is making a video documentary history of UK Hip Hop and if you think you have footage, photos or contributed to UK hip hop hop way back when Monie Love, Cutmaster Swift and DJ Pogo were at the Africa Centre, when Tim Westwood was just a crazy youngster in the 80's (he's barely age - nuts!) and when break dancers held huge audiences in the middle of Covent Garden with tight jeans and long socks, we need you.

Check this video for inspiration - the REAL deal...do you remember it? I know you've got some tricks up your sleeve!!

Get at me!
